Delivers the Power and Reliability of UNIX Systems
with the Performance and Economy of Intel Platforms

The UnixWare® 7 Release 7.1.1 Departmental Edition operating
system is an advanced network computing server that brings the power
and reliability of UNIX systems to departmental database and applications
servers for medium and large business computing. Designed to deliver
excellent performance on standard servers exploiting the Intel®
Pentium® processor family, the Departmental Edition provides
exceptional value by maximizing IT investment and ensuring freedom
of choice.
The Departmental Edition provides integrated support of diverse
clients. The UnixWare 7 Webtop offers a browser interface for use
by all client types, enabling seamless access on mixed-client networks.
UnixWare 7 enables access from any client terminals, NCs and PCs
without additional client-side software. UnixWare 7 also
provides a broad range of integrated server features such as the
Netscape FastTrack Server, a Java runtime environment, Windows
file and print services and system backup. This network computing
platform helps enable businesses to be more competitive through
the productivity and cost benefits of web-enabled applications without
forcing a complete IT revolution or rendering existing clients obsolete.
The Departmental Edition makes a server easy to deploy, manage
and maintain with point-and-click SCOadmin. The server is easily
managed from anywhere using a web browser via the integrated UnixWare
7 Webtop functionality and enables complete remote control with
server-group and distributed server management features. System
management tools improve administrator productivity and maximize
system uptime while drastically reducing total cost of ownership.
With built-in availability and reliability features that protect
against hardware failures, it is a highly dependable platform for
running departmental applications that automate business processes
or for sharing business-critical information.
This next-generation operating environment provides complete flexibility
in choosing the best application architecture and the right clients
for maximizing the benefits of IT investment. Fully compliant with
open industry standards, Year 2000 supported and EURO ready, its
core components such as the filesystem and system libraries are
64-bit ready. UnixWare 7 is a strategic platform that is widely
supported by the industry's leading OEMs and ISVs, ensuring easy
migration from existing platforms and maximum investment protection.
