New Economics for the Data Center, New Power
for Intel Processor-Based Servers

The UnixWare® 7 Release 7.1.1 Data Center Edition operating
system is the newest addition to the UnixWare 7 product line. It
is designed to meet the most stringent demands on performance, scalability
and availability found in the corporate data center. With support
for multiple levels of redundancy and support for servers with huge
disk and memory capacity, the Data Center Edition brings data center
power with significant cost savings over RISC-based UNIX server
offerings. The Data Center Edition is licensed for 8 CPUs, 150 users
and 32 gigabytes of memory, and can scale up from there.
Like all members of the UnixWare 7 product family, the Data Center
Edition can be easily integrated with legacy systems and enables
high-speed access to enterprise data through its rich networking
subsystem. It includes a scalable, high-performance TCP/IP subsystem
with industry-standard tools like DHCP (client and server), Sendmail
8.9.1, and Netscape Communicator, as well as many other features
of Intel processor-based servers. Support for Windows® File
and Print services is also built in. Coupled with a high-performance,
highly scalable Java subsystem, UnixWare 7 enables businesses
to gain excellent return on IT investment through a sound network
computing architecture.
The UnixWare 7 Data Center Edition is designed to meet the performance
and 24X7 availability demands of business-critical application environments.
It delivers superior availability and on-line serviceability, by
leveraging the latest innovations in industry-standard technologies
such as Hot Plug PCI, Multi-path I/O and I2O. It also allows for
redundant HBAs, network cards, and real-time management of data
on redundant disks and file systems. It ensures that the information
critical to your business is dependable, accessible and accurate.Taken
together, these technologies have achieved above 10,000 hours of
continuous operation (MTBSS.mean time between software stops) in
SCO labs. UnixWare® 7 NonStop® Clusters takes this already
high availability and scalability to a whole new level.
The UnixWare 7 Data Center Edition includes the built-in UnixWare
7 Webtop, which provides complete web-browser control of the system.
Administrators and users can now take advantage of the power of
the UNIX system using the familiar tools of the web.
Fully compliant with open industry standards, Year 2000 supported,
and EURO-ready, the UnixWare 7 Data Center Edition provides a powerful
platform for high-end-system builders. While other UNIX system vendors
formulate plans for delivering UNIX servers to the enterprise on
64-bit Intel processors in the future, The SCO Group brings data center
class technologies and performance on 32-bit Intel processors to
the enterprise today, with a solid roadmap to 64-bit computing tomorrow.
