SLS oss657a: Minimum PIT Count Supplement

Date posted: 23-APR-03

For: OpenServer Release 5.0.6

Description: This patch addresses the following:

Some systems running SCO OpenServer 5.0.6 on CPUs over 1 gigahertz may experience periodic system pauses that can be resumed by console keyboard activity. The problem is caused by the Programmable Interrupt Timer (PIT) being programmed to assert and deassert itself so fast that the CPU's attempt to service the interrupt is unsuccessful. This leads to an endless loop of spurious interrupts which can only be broken by a legitimate interrupt (such as a keystroke on the console keyboard).

SLS oss605a: NetBIOS Drivers Supplement

Date posted: 04-OCT-99 For: SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.4, 5.0.5

Description: SLS OSS605A corrects these problems: 1. If the sender closed a NetBIOS over TCP session before the receiver had finished reading the data, a kernel panic could result. The resulting panic message is: PANIC: k_trap - kernel mode trap type 0x0000000E Associated SCO Tracking Numbers: SCO-236-1148, 710373 2. If the sender closed a NetBIOS over TCP session before the receiver had finished reading the data, any NetBIOS packets still buffered in the receiver's kernel could be lost. Note: By default, this behavior remains the same, for backward compatibility. In order to give the receiving application up to 30 seconds to read the last NetBIOS packets after the sender has closed the NetBIOS over TCP session, do the following: - Modify "/etc/conf/pack.d/nb/space.c", changing "int nb_allow_tpi_ordrel = 0;" to "int nb_allow_tpi_ordrel = 1;". - Relink the kernel. - Reboot.

Description: This SLS addresses the following known issues with the Virtual Disk Manager on SCO OpenServer 5:

1. A problem of system hangs during shutdown caused by uncompleted disk transactions. The hang has been known to occur at the "The system is down" message, specifically at the "dkconfig -h halt" process in /etc/rc0.d/K81VDRESTORE. SLS OSS602B adds a timeout to insure that during a shutdown the Virtual Disk Manager will not hang the system. Additional problem corrected in SLS OSS602B: 2. Rebuilding a failed RAID level 5 Virtual Disk causes an OpenServer 5.0.5 system to panic. The panic has been known to occur approximately one minute after this message at system initialization: 'Queuing virtual disk restores for vdisk4' or following a 'dkconfig -r' or 'dkconfig -R' command, due to a call being made to the hardware driver with masked interrupts.
