I am having problems downloading an SCO supplement using my web browser.

Not specific to any SCO operating system release

Problem
I am trying to download a supplement from the SCO web site. When I
click on the supplement to download it, it appears as text within
the browser instead of being copied to my local system disk.

CAUSE:
SCO supplements are in one of the following formats:

          1. A cpio archive (for example, SCO OpenServer 5 custom+(ADM)
             supplement)

          2. A tar archive (for example, an SCO UNIX custom(ADM) supplement)

          3. A pkgadd datastream (for example, SCO UnixWare pkgadd(1M) PTFs)

          4. A compressed archive (any of the above in compressed form)

Your web browser may not recognize one or more of the above formats,
and may assume what is being viewed is text; therefore, it will
display the text within the browser window. Your browser may be
configurable by means of a preferences-type editor to provide it
the ability to recognize and successfully download these data formats.

However, if your browser is configured to process the file
image as it downloads (for example, to uncompress any file with a
.Z extension), then the failure to recognize this can result in an
unexpected data format which may cause subsequent confusion or error.

Solution
If you want to save an SCO supplement image to your system's local
hard disk, click on the image link with the right mouse button and
select the "Save link as..." (on some browsers the menu item may
be called "Save target as...") menu option.

This will result in the appearance of a "Save as..." dialog box,
allowing you to specify the name and location of the image that you
          are going to store.

Make sure that you have understood how your browser will process
the file when you download it. Check the browser's preferences or
equivalent configuration menu to find out how various plug-in
applications may have been set up to convert the data to be downloaded
          into a certain target format.

If you are saving an SCO OpenServer 5 supplement image, make sure
that the name of the image you are saving is correct, for example:

                             VOL.000.000

See the cover letter that comes with the supplement for details
on how to install the supplement onto your system.
