Running Third-Party Applications on OpenServer 6

This session will cover the installing and running of any existing Xenix or OpenServer 5 application on OpenServer 6.

Using examples from customers who have updated to OpenServer 6, all aspects of the upgrade process will be covered, including hardware set up, linking various modules, network configuration, data migration, and more.

It is specifically targeted to resellers who need to replace their customers' aged systems, with newer, faster systems in situations where:

• The existing application continues to meet the requirement of the end customer. There is no incentive to upgrade or change the application.
• Some or all of the application source code is unavailable because it can’t be located, or because it’s a third party application, with no rights to the application source code.

Best Practices in Upgrading to OpenServer 6 for Developers

This session for developers will first describe the Development System for SCO UNIX, demonstrating the ease with which a single application can be written that runs on both SCO OpenServer 6 and UnixWare 7.1.4 The second part of the webinar will focus on upgrading any Xenix or OpenServer 5 application to OpenServer 6. It will cover all aspects of the upgrade, including hardware configuration, user accounts, email, networking configuration, filesystems, X11, and more.

Trouble shooting tools and techniques including Debug, Mem-tools, and DBX, and helps resellers and developers learn how to quickly isolate and resolve problems.

It is targeted to a developer/ISV/VSP who has access to the application source and wishes to expand the application functionality as part of the upgrade, or wants to take advantage of new features in OpenServer 6 ( for example, large file systems, native threads, etc.)

This is a step-by-step approach; and solutions to common challenges faced by developers in the upgrade process will be demonstrated. Attendance at this seminar will greatly reduce the engineering resources needed to upgrade end customers.

Best Practices in Upgrading to OpenServer 6 for System Administrators

This session will focus on the administrative nuances of upgrading to OpenServer 6 from a release of OpenServer 5. Each topic will be explored in detail and will include: hardware configuration, user accounts, e-mail, network setup and configuration, system administration, and more. In addition, diagnostic and troubleshooting tools and techniques will be presented to assist in problem isolation, hardware discovery, etc.

Upgrading to UnixWare 7.1.4

This session will cover the details of upgrading from any previous version of UnixWare 7 to UnixWare 7.1.4. It will cover a step-by-step description of how a UnixWare system was upgraded to UnixWare 7.1.4. Topics include: hardware configuration, user accounts, e-mail, networking configuration, filesystems, X11, and more. It is targeted to resellers who are upgrading applications for which source code is not available, as well as to developer/ISV/VSPs who plan to modify/recompile the application.
