The SCO Community Initiatives: Updating the SCO Solution Directory & Hardware Certification Status ISV-IHV Partners, Applications, Hardware Certifications & how to find them. "The SCO Community” is a project of SCO and iXorg - its goal is to deliver information and resources for customers and channel partners about SCO products, compatibility, technical resources, etc. In this session, the focus will be the first project undertaken cooperatively between SCO and iXorg – that of updating the SCO Solutions Directory to list on the SCO Web Site all software programs be they proprietary or open source. In addition, the SCO Hardware Database will be discussed detailing Hardware Certifications that have happened over the course of the last year – hear customer needs for unlisted products and in general inventory those hardware needs of our customers that need addressing.
SCO UNIX Maintenance & Support Options A practical overview of the avenues customers can use to get technical assistance from SCO, forums - customers can contact and search for answers and solutions to their issues and how customers can get support for running their SCO Operating Systems on VMware.
SCO Debugger - Tips and Tricks A technical session covering the various tools available to diagnose and debug application problems, including:
  • command line and graphical debugger (debug)
  • debugging dynamic memory problems (memtool)
  • signal call and signal trace utility (truss)
  • collecting Xenix emulation trace information
Overview of Developing and Porting on OpenServer 6 & UnixWare 7.1.4 An in-depth technical session on developing, maintaining and porting applications to OpenServer 6.0.0 and UnixWare 7.1.4 including:
  • review of SCO DevSys features
  • SVR5 and OSR5 ABI support on OpenServer 6
  • details, pitfalls and solutions to porting open source software to your SCO UNIX platforms
  • obtaining source, tools, configuration issues, GCC-isms and C++ template instantiation issues.
Deploying & Configuring a DNS Server on OpenServer 6 or UnixWare 7 We will discuss in detail the structure of the configuration files on SCO servers (both OSR6 and UW7) and the tools provided in the OS for configuration and utilization of DNS servers. We will also cover short term fixes available to facilitate running OSR5.0.x binaries and shell scripts on OSR6, and long term fixes that should be applied to your applications to comply with Bind 8 and 9.
Printing and Pseudo-printing from SCO-based Applications

Customer demands for printing have increased, and new areas of pseudo-printing have appeared, such as faxing and PDF generation. How can applications running on Open Server or Unixware meet these needs? This session will survey what is possible, and what tools are available, both on Unix itself and in a mixed-OS environment. Areas to be covered include:

  • Plain text output
  • PCL and PostScript
  • Methods of distributed printing
  • Bringing Windows into the mix
  • IPP and CUPS
  • Faxing print jobs
  • Generating PDFs (and emailing them)
  • Form overlays for plain-paper printing
  • PCL printing vs. brain-dead printers
  • HTML as a print language (or not)
  • Creating fancier printouts
  • Security of printout data
Developing Mobile Applications using SCO UNIX and SCO Mobile Server This session will serve as an overview to building and hosting mobile applications using the SCO Mobile Server operating on SCO UNIX. The capabilities and advantages of the SCO Mobile Server will be described, as will the different types of applications that can be developed for it.

The SCO Mobile Software Development Kit, which provides the means to develop service application components as well as client application components for BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, and other phone environments, will be discussed.

SCO's own FCmobilelife and HipCheck products will be covered, as examples of the different kinds of mobility applications that can be created for the SCO Mobile Server.

SCOoffice Technical Update We will review the features and enhanced functionality of SCOoffice 4.2 MP1, as well as review the new SCOoffice 5 product. As part of the MP1 discussion we will show several extensions to the functionality of 4.2 available using the current feature set.
Introduction to DNS and Application Issues Related to DNS Expansion of the Internet and security concerns which have driven new standards in Bind 8 & Bind 9. We will discuss how DNS functions under these standards and how to configure your internal DNS servers, and how to avoid several pitfalls and potential security problems.
Porting and Packaging Workshop on SCO OpenServer 6 and UnixWare 7.1.4

A full day, hands-on training session where attendees will be able to immediately use the information provided in the development, porting and packaging breakout sessions of Monday and Tuesday. SCO engineers will guide participants through every phase of the building (port) and packaging of several open-source projects, explaining any porting issues. At the end of the course, users will have useful utilities or applications ready for installation on their OpenServer 6.0.0 or UnixWare 7.1.4 systems.

Forum attendees wishing to actively participate should bring their laptop configured to run either an ssh or telnet session into the Unix development systems over a wired or wireless internet connection.

SCO Office BOF Topics: Q and A On SCOoffice 4.2, Cleaning up spam attacks, Controlling performance, Configuration options to solve specific customer requests.
