Authorizing subscribers to use applications

To use services that are deployed on the EdgeClick Processor (ECP), subscribers must first be authorized to run them. Administrators can set up access for subscribers, on a per-application basis, at the EdgeClick Administration site.

To avoid this restriction for applications that are under development and undergoing testing (including the sample services supplied with EdgeBuilder), developers can by-pass the application partition layer and make a service automatically available to all subscribers. To do this, set the version number of the EdgeClick service to:

_test_

Once an application is assigned a real version number and formally deployed, use the EdgeClick Administration site to grant permission for desired subscribers to run the application:

  1. If the ECP is not already running on the development system, select: Start-»All Programs-»EdgeBuilder-»Start EdgeClick Processor to start the ECP.
  2. On the sytem running the ECP, select Start-»All Programs-»EdgeBuilder-»EdgeClick Admin Site.
The EdgeClick Administration site opens in your default web browser.
  3. Click Account Login and login as the administrator.
  4. On the "Admin Portal" page, click Manage Applications.
  5. In the list of services deployed on the ECP, click on the application to which you want to assign subscribers. (Note that if the version number shown is _test_, then any assignments you make on this page have no effect, even though they are saved. All subscribers have access to these services.)
  6. The "Update Application Subscribers" page displays subscribers who are currently authorized to use this application.
  7. Click Add Individual Subscribers to authorize subscribers who you select from the subscriber list, or click Add Subscribers From Group to authorize all of the members of a group or groups that you select.
You can also remove subscribers from the authorization list on this page.
  8. Click OK to save your changes to the application's authorization list.
