Problem
How do I install all the necessary components for the HP (Compaq)
          Insight Manager?

Solution
PLEASE NOTE THAT EFS INSIGHT MANAGEMENT AGENTS HAVE BEEN REMOVED FOR
          SCO OPENSERVER AS OF 5.770a.

For previous versions, if you available:

If you need to install EFS v5.48 or previous on OpenServer
5.0.7, see the NOTES section at the base of this document.

The software detailed below is available from the Foundation Pack
          provided with the Hardware.

See the accompanying documentation for more information about
          installation.

          1. Install the latest HP (Compaq) Extended Feature Supplement (EFS)

Install by inserting the first EFS disk and running "custom"
and loading the software from the floppy media.

You can press RETURN on the HP Extended Feature Supplement and
pick individually, the components you require. This is recommended
as it is not advisable to install drivers and monitors for hardware
you do not have as this runs unnecessary daemons on your server.

          After installation re-boot your server.

If you have installed all the HP Extended Feature drivers you may
wish to disable each monitoring daemon that is not required from
/etc/rc2.d. For example, if the "ciss" host bus adapter is not
present then disable the start-up of the daemon by adding a "exit 0"
to the top of the script.

          Alternatively, to disable:

cled - - - Compaq ProLiant Storage System (rev 5.770a)
cevt - - - hp ProLiant Event Logging Driver (rev 5.770a)
casm 0x2800-0x28ff 10 - hp ProLiant Advanced Server Management Driver

Edit the /etc/conf/sdevice.d/casm, cled and cevt and change the
second field from "Y" to "N". Save the file and relink the kernel
          and reboot.

          # /etc/conf/cf.d/link_unix -y

          2. Install the latest HP Insight Manager agents if required.

If you are using the HP Insight Manager CD (Version 5.50) for
example, then you will to mount the CD first:

                 mount -r -olower /dev/cd0 /mnt

and the software can be found in:

                 /mnt/agents/sco/eng/compaq

cd to each of the agent directories there. There will be four.

                 cmafdtn - Foundation Agent
cmanic - Network Interface Card Agent
                 cmastor - Storage Agent
                 cmasvr - Server Agent

Within each directory run the appropriate installation script:

                 cmafdtn - instfdtn
                 cmanic - instnic
                 cmastor - inststor
                 cmasvr - instsvr

During the installation of each Agent you will be prompted for:

The System Contact - Written to /etc/snmpd.conf
The System Location - Written to /etc/snmpd.conf
The Community String - default "public"
              * The Trap Destination IP - default "0.0.0.0"
The 'reboot' option - default "No"
The 'set' option - default "Yes"

After installation it is recommended to re-boot your server.

              * The Trap Destination IP can also be set to a Windows 2000 PC
running the Compaq Insight Manager (CIM) software. However,
this PC must have SNMP enable as part of its Network protocol.
To ensure that this is set for Windows 2000, go to:

                  Start | Settings | Control Panel | Network& Dial-up
Connections | Advanced | Optional Network Components |
Management and Monitoring Tools. Once installed from the CD,
it will not be necessary to re-boot your PC.

          3. If you are using a Compaq UPS then these are also available on
the same CD (5.50) in the following:

                 /mnt/cpqcpm/agents/sco/eng

There is an install script and documentation there. The script
can be run with the command:

                 sh ./install.sh

You must ensure that the Compaq UPS is connected as the software
will try to detect the UPS on the serial port(s) you specify.

Connect the serial cable that came with the UPS from COM1 (Port A)
on the server to the UPS. Make a note of the Part Number of this
serial cable (look at both sides of the D9 connector)

Upon a successful detection of the UPS, the software will be
installed and the daemon loaded at boot time, however, you still may
not see any additional information from the Compaq Insight Manager.

Now Start Compaq Power Management Agent.

NOTICE: THERE IS NO NEED TO REBOOT THE SYSTEM, JUST START THE AGENT:

                 # ./etc/init.d/cpm.init start

This agent will start automatically on boot if server is rebooted by
          the startup script:

                 /etc/rc2.d/S99cpminit

Check CIM console because at this stage under Recovery button, UPS
          button should be active now.

If not, the Compaq Power Management (CPQCPM) Insight plug-in must be
installed in the CIM console on the PC.

          To do this :

          a) Close Compaq Insight Manager Console if it is running.
          b) On the Management CD 5.50 go to directory \cpqcpm\insight\eng
          and run setup.exe
          c) Reboot the PC where CIM Console is installed.
          d) After reboot you will be able to see full details about the UPS

For more information on the types of UPS configuration available
          see NOTE1.

          4. Check the directory /var/spool/compaq for any errors in the log
file(s) there. The Agents are sensitive to the version of "driver"
and "updates" that have been previously installed, above.

          5. On a PC the Compaq Insight Manager can be installed to monitor
activity on the servers where the Agents have been installed.

These are available in two ways; either

          a) Using the Web based version : http:<server></server>:2301
and logging on with the user "administrator" and password
          "administrator".

This feature does not need a Web server to be active on the server.

          b) Using the latest Compaq Insight Manager program available from
the above Web Site or from the Compaq Insight Manager CD.

If you are running an earlier version of the Compaq Insight Manager
program, you can go into Version Control | Update Database from
          CD/diskette to get the information.

If you are unable to see the server from the Compaq Insight
Manager software and are unable to access the Devices via the Web
Agent then see if you are getting the following messages from
          the file:

                 /var/spool/compaq/agenterrs.log

                 TIMEOUT: no response
                 response failed
                 Get_response failed
                 read_mem_buf
                 init_snmp_connection

It is likely that the agents are unable to communicate with the Trap
Destination IP address. This is likely to happen if you select the
default of 0.0.0.0. Another IP address to use would be 127.0.0.1.

If the server PANIC's upon installation of the Compaq EFS Software,
it could be possible that the Compaq Health driver is the cause. The
start-up script for this daemon is /etc/rc2.d/S99cmahealth.

Without cmahealth, running the Automatic Server Recovery daemon is
now redundant. The start-up script for this daemon is:

                 /etc/rc2.d/S99cpqasr.

This will grade out the "Recovery" icon within the Compaq Insight
          Manager.

This problem has been reported to SCO Engineering.

          - The Compaq Wellness driver may conflict on IRQ 13. If you wish to
see if the driver is conflicting then run the command:

                 hwconfig -hc

If you wish to remove the Compaq Wellness driver then change Y to N
in the second field of the following file:

                 /etc/conf/sdevice.d/cpqw

The kernel will need to be re-linked and this can be done with the
          command:

                 /etc/conf/cf.d/link_unix -y

This will grade out the "Expansion Bds" icon within the Compaq
          Insight Manager.

The following startup scripts in /etc/rc2.d refer to hardware and
services that you may not have on your server. In which case you
may wish not to attempt to start the service each time the server
is turned on. This can be accomplished by simply adding an "exit 0"
statement to the top of the script:

S99ciissd See ciissd(CPQEFS) - Compaq IMD Screen Idle

This is the Compaq IMD LCD screen on the front of your server.
Running it will display the server's name and date and time on
the front LCD panel if there is one present.

                 /usr/spool/compaq

NOTE1: When one UPS supports more than one computer and doesn't have
a Multiserver Card installed, the configuration is called a UPS
          group.

If no Multiserver Card is installed and you want to use an UPS Group,
only one computer in that UPS group can be attached to the UPS by
means of a serial communications cable.

This computer is known as the UPS group controller.

Any computer in the UPS group that is not the UPS group controller is
known as a UPS group member.

The UPS group controller will 'talk' directly with the UPS through
the serial cable while UPS group members 'talk' with the controller.

If you want change your UPS group configuration, you must reinstall
          the software.

Below are detailed two worked through examples:

Installing EFS on 507
*********************
If you are trying to install the EFS v5.48 or previous on OpenServer 5.0.7 and
the kernel fails to link, you will need to follow the instructions in:

Technical Article 125587

General EFS and Insight Manager Version Notes
*********************************************
EFS v5.48 was the last EFS to contain the cpqw (Compaq Wellness) driver, needed to
monitor older Proliant hardware. It was superseded by the ASM driver.

The win32 (legacy) application Compaq Insight Manager (CIM) has been discontinued for
some time now.

Although HP recommend that customers migrate from using this win32 program to the
newer web version, HP Systems Insight Manager, the win32 release of Insight Manager
can still be used for testing purposes. On Windows 2000 and XP systems the only
requirement that is needed before CIM (win32) is installed is that snmp is installed
in the Windows Control Panel / Add Remove Programs / Add Remove WINDOWS Components /
Management and Monitoring Tools. When snmp is installed two services are created,
snmp and snmptrap. You should verify that these have started successfully port SNMP
installation.

When you start the Insight Manager application, select the option, Setup / Winsnmp.
Disable the option "Use WinSNMP the next time Insight Manager is started." Now exit
Insight Manager and restart it.
