Installation
------------
When installing SCO products on the HP platform always visit the
above as it will contain all the latest updates for your platform
and note the following:
1. Pre-Ordering
Please check:
SCO:
http://www.sco.com/chwp
HP:
http://h10018.www1.hp.com/wwsolutions/sco/index-all.html
http://h10018.www1.hp.com/wwsolutions/sco/options-matrix-all.html
to determine how the certification was made and check out the SCO
Knowledge Centre at:
http://wdb1.sco.com/kb/search/
to check for any particular solutions encountered with your hardware
platform.
2. Pre-Installation
2a. Get the latest Firmware CD which HP provide to upgrade your
firmware before installation starts to ensure all your devices
are at the latest level.
2b. Get any later firmware updates available than the ones on the CD
2c. Boot the server into the BIOS and disable any unnecessary
options to free up as many IRQ's as possible and put as many
devices as possible onto separate IRQ's to reduce any possible
hardware contention.
2d. When configuring the logical volumes, please aim to use,
at least, a RAID1 mirror set for the root/application and
additional RAID 0+1 mirrors for the data volume(s) to maximise
performance and reliability.
3. Installation
3a. Download the latest Extended Feature Supplement (EFS) set for
your model.
This is the new "HP ProLiant Support Pack for SCO ... "
and this contains both the EFS and the Insight Management Agents
in one package.
Check the EFS version and Insight Management Agent version to
see if there is a later revision to the Proliant Support Pack
(PSP) and unpack using the instructions provided.
3b. Use the latest Extended Feature Supplement HBA (Host Bus Adaptor)
Disk for UnixWare7/OpenServer6 and BTLD (Boot Time Loadable
Drivers) for OpenServer5 to install the server onto the root disk
from the CD.
4. Post-Installation
4a. Load the latest Maintenance Patch, any additional Maintenance
Patch Supplements and Network Drivers (ND) package from:
http://www.sco.com/support
4b. Load the latest PSP version or EFS package onto your server and
unpack using the instructions provided.
4c. When installing the EFS Package (cpqefs.pkg for UW7/OSR6) take
care not to pick every package available.
Only install the relevent drivers and packages required.
Disk Monitors:
Only install the appropriate IDA, CISS or HPSAS monitoring tool
appropriate to the disk controller you have.
This installs /usr/bin/compaq/diags/[driver] and there is a text
based tool for monitoring the state of the logical volumes on the
controllers you have.
eg., /usr/bin/compaq/diags/ciss and /usr/bin/compaq/diags/sas
You can also run:
# scoadmin HP Proliant CISS
or
# scoadmin HP Proliant SAS
The 'ida' diagnostic has been removed from the Platform Support
Packs (PSP) but is still available from earlier EFS releases.
NIC Drivers:
There are four choices for network drivers:
1) The operating system itself detects the NiC you are have
automatically, either at install time or post-installation
when you run "netconfig" or "netcfg".
This driver may work fine but is not likely to be the very
latest driver available for your NiC.
2) Therefore it is recommended to install the latest 'nd'
package available from SCO from:
http://www.sco.com/support/download.html
Bear in mind that this will use the latest NiC driver which
is supported by SCO and the OEM Manufacturer of the NiC and
may also include additional fixes provided by SCO for this
particular NiC.
Alternatively, if your network card (NIC) is not detected by
the Network Configuration Manager then you may wish to use a
different or later driver from:
3) The 'cpqefs' package will contain the latest NiC provided
by HP for this particular NiC. Bear in mind, that whilst
SCO may provide a later version, it is likely that this
driver is tailored for this particular HP re-badged NiC and
may include particular fixes and functionality provided by
HP and will be supported by HP.
4) Finally, check the OEM's download web site for the very
latest drivers:
For example, Broadcom's:
http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/downloaddrivers.php
Bear in mind that this will be the very latest driver from
the OEM and may not be supported by SCO or HP.
Please note that this and the latest Platform Support Packs (PSP)
from HP contain drivers for the NetXtreme II (bnx2).
If the server has Dual NiC's then it is recommended to ensure
that both NiC's share the same IRQ in the server's BIOS.
It is recommended to use the non I-SCSI version of the driver.
Health Drivers:
If you are planning to use the HP Insight Management Agent
tools then it is recommended to install the Server Monitoring
Daemons (ASM), etc. Note: the ASM XL is for the G5 model and
above.
If you do not wish to use the HP Insight Management Agent tools
then you can still 'look' at hardware related issues on the
server with:
# /usr/bin/compaq/diags/imp/hplog -v
# scoadmin HP Proliant IML
UID:
Control the HP UID light with:
/usr/bin/compaq/diags/hpuid
Too many daemons running?:
Disable what you don't need to save on resource in the process
queue.
For UnixWare7/OpenServer6 use 'pkgrm' to remove any
unneccessary packages. See the packages in /var/sadm/pkg.
For OpenServer5, go into /etc/conf/sdevice.d and disable the
driver you don't need. A very common one is 'cled' for the
Compaq Storage System, ie. JBOD SCSI external cabinets.
Simply change the Y to N in the file /etc/conf/sdevice.d/cled and
rebuild the kernel with /etc/conf/cf.d/link_unix -y then reboot.
If you are not sure what to disable then feel free to contact
SCO Support.
Additionally, for OpenServer5, the "cpqmon" binary is installed
which is a monitor, similar to 'top' and 'u386mon'. The same
binary can also be moved and ran and non-HP servers.
4d. Insight Management Agents
Please note that these are no longer available for OpenServer5,
as from version 5.770a.
These agents will be included now in the psp package or are
available as a download from the above. Load and install these
packages using the instructions provided and the Agents will be
to provide information on the state of your HP hardware by
accessing the Health Drivers loaded as part of the EFS package.
During the load it is recommended to enter a Contact Name and
Location of the server. Failure to do this may result in the
Storage and NIC Agents not installing and hanging at the blue
screen with an invalid keystroke. This can be worked around by
entering the appropriate entries in CIM_AGENTS_CONTACT and
CIM_AGENTS_LOCATION of /usr/spool/compaq/cmaiqm and reinstalling
either all or the individual failed components.
Without the Agents, then the only hardware messages that will be
displayed would be to console so it is recommended to install
these packages if possible.
Once installed, you should be able to access your server from a
browser on a PC to:
http://<my server>:2301
to check on the hardware status of your server remotely.
The default login is "administrator" and the password is also
"administrator".
If you can't login then check the server's entry in /etc/hosts is
correct or try "telnet <my server> 2301", to prove the port's
open:
Connected to <my server>
Escape character is '^]'.
Connection closed by foreign host.
There is also, provided with your server, the latest PC version
software necessary to provide an SNMP Monitoring station to
monitor and report automatically on all your HP hardware.
The last 32 bit version of this software, v5.50, will also work
on the latest HP hardware and also report on HPSAS drives
as well, previously available from:
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/14657.html
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/SP19501-20000/SP19778.exe
This software is also available from SCO Support from:
ftp://ftpput.sco.com/tmp/support/InsightMgr
Due to security restrictions, it is recommended to use DOS 'ftp'
Log in as an 'anonymous' user and change directory
to 'tmp/support/InsightMgr'.
It is then recommended to run:
ftp> bin
ftp> hash
ftp> get SP19778.TXT
ftp> get SP19778.exe
You will not be able to see the files with a "dir" but the
download will work.
For example:
ftp> get SP19778.TXT
200 PORT command successful.
150 Opening BINARY mode data connection for SP19778.TXT...
226 Transfer complete.
ftp: 1674 bytes received in 0.34Seconds 4.87Kbytes/sec.
ftp> bye
221 Goodbye.
or:
ftp://ftpput.sco.com/tmp/support/InsightMgr/SP19778.exe
ftp://ftpput.sco.com/tmp/support/InsightMgr/SP19778.TXT
Once downloaded:
F:\tmp\InsightMgr>dir
Volume in drive F is USB-1
Volume Serial Number is 20F1-7BDC
Directory of F:\tmp\InsightMgr
20/02/2008 11:17 <DIR> .
20/02/2008 11:17 <DIR> ..
20/02/2008 11:14 12,910,348 SP19778.exe
20/02/2008 11:17 1,674 SP19778.txt
2 File(s) 12,912,022 bytes
2 Dir(s) 31,537,324,032 bytes free
** Also, you can associate your HP devices with an email address
within this software as a Task to notify you should they
degrade **
Make sure that the SNMP service is available from on your
Windows PC with Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs
-> Windows Components -> Management and Monitoring Tools ->
SNMP/WMI then reboot once installed.
You will not be able to detect or see any externally attached logical
volumes in the above software or Web Management Agent if they are
attached to an MSA500 or MSA1000.
