OpenServer 5.0.7 Maintenance Pack 3 Contents
This Maintenance Pack is available to all OpenServer 5.0.7 customers and includes the following new features and important fixes:
User-Level Threads Support
Developers can now develop a single thread-aware application on OpenServer or UnixWare and deploy that application on both platforms. These applications are created with the UnixWare/OpenServer Development Kit (UDK). End-users benefit from additional available applications.
Mozilla(TM)
Mozilla 1.6 was named the best Web browser by PC World magazine. New features include tabbed browsing, pop-up blocker, and PDF support. These combine with existing features including advanced security settings, themes, multi-language and multi-platform support, the latest Web standards, and password, download, and cookie managers.
The Mozilla Messenger e-mail reader is enhanced with adaptive junk e-mail controls and customizable labels and e-mail views. New features simplify managing multiple e-mail accounts. End-users save time in managing e-mail correspondence.
Tomcat
This supplement introduces Tomcat. Now developers can develop and run Java Servlets and JavaServer Pages in Web-based applications. This speeds the development and deployment of commercial-quality, server-side solutions for the Java platform on OpenServer.
CD Recording
The popular cdrecord tools are now available to create CDs. CD multi-session support enables users to read/write multiple logical data streams on a single CD. Administrators benefit from backup on writeable CD-ROM drives.
X.Org X11R6.7 Runtime
X.Org X11R6.7 core runtime libraries, header files and fonts provide a native development environment for X11R6. Applications developed using these libraries will continue to run on the existing X11R5 server but will benefit from running on an X11R6 server.
In addition to these new features, Maintenance Pack 3 includes the following updated versions of these packages already included with OpenServer 5.0.7. These new versions enhance security, provide improved functionality, and allow for better application compatibility.
- Perl 5.8.4
- Supplemental graphics, web and X11 libraries
- Apache HTTP Server 1.3.31
- OpenSSH 3.8p1
- BIND 8.4.4
Supplement 3 CD Contents
The Supplement 3 CD includes Maintenance Pack 3, Update Pack 3 and the following updated features:
Java 1.4.2
OpenServer 5.0.7 now includes version 1.4.2 of the Java 2 Standard Edition platform. The latest Java improves application user interfaces and provides more powerful application programming interfaces. End-users benefit by immediately deploying applications developed with the latest version of Java. Performance improvements increase performance by up to 60% compared to the prior version.
Java Components
Additional new Java components enable serial device communication through the javax.comm-class libraries. The javasoap-class libraries enable applications to use web services to communicate over the network.
Squid Web Proxy Cache 2.5STABLE5
Squid now supports expanded authentication schemes, optimized searching, SSL gatewaying, security fixes and many other new and improved features.
