Hardware Developers Kit (HDK) Documentation

The hdkdoc package contains the guides, topics, and manual pages that discuss how to develop device drivers for the OpenServer and UnixWare platforms.

To view the HDK documentation, install the package on an OpenServer or UnixWare system running DocView (see below) and then point any browser at http://hostname:8457 (where hostname is the network name of the system, or localhost if you are using a local browser.

System requirements

The hdkdoc package is designed to be used with the DocView documentation server, which is installed by default on all platforms. It is recommended you also install the operating system documentation delivered with the base system, as described in the appropriate Getting Started Guide. The Getting Started Guide is available in the online documentation under ``Installation and Licensing'' on all platforms (and on the web in the documentation sets served from the Documentation Web Page.

Installation

To download and install the hdkdoc package:
  1. Log in as root.
  2. Download the package to an installation directory; for example, /tmp.
  3. Use the pkgadd command to install it by entering:
    pkgadd -qd /tmp/hdkdoc
    

Configuration

After installing the hdkdoc package, run the following command to index the documentation so it can be searched using DocView:
/usr/lib/docview/conf/rundig

Note that during the hdkdoc package installation, the manual pages are automatically configured with the makewhatis command, so that the man command searches the HDK manual pages.
