Dear SCO Customer,
The enclosed Support Level Supplement (SLS) OSS451B, WDATAPI BTLD for EIDE,
contains a replacement Western Digital ATAPI driver for SCO OpenServer Release
5.0.0, 5.0.2 and SCO Internet FastStart Release 1.0.0, 1.1.0.
This corrects problems installing SCO OpenServer on EIDE hard disks with a
capacity greater than 2 Gigabytes (GB), using an IDE (ATAPI) CD-ROM or other
installation devices. When trying to install, the installation fails in one
of the following ways:
- Unable to detect ROOT filesystem.
- An error message "NOTICE: ram: No space on device on device 31/50"
occurs after completing the screen with the time zone.
- An error message "Exit value: 1 Status Value: 256" from IQM is seen.
- Filesystems that are greater than 2 gigabytes (GB) cannot be checked
with "fsck" and may not be fully usable.
- The bad track table overflows when the bad tracking option is
set and the size of IDE hard drive exceeds 2GB.
At installation time, do the following:
1. Follow normal SCO BTLD instructions as documented in the AHS 5.02
Release Notes or in other SCO documentation. Choose the package "wd"
Note the information in Step 2 below, which is specific to SLS OSS451B.
This BTLD replaces the wd driver in AHS 5.02 or in SCO OpenServer 5.0.0
or 5.0.2.
2. Do NOT Scan for bad tracks as a new "badtrk" utility, which is included
in this SLS, has not been installed yet. If you have already attempted
to scan for bad tracks, and the hard drive is greater than 2GB, you will
need to delete the entries in the Current Bad Track Table, using the
procedure below. A badtrk scan can be done after installation. To
delete the badtrk entries:
Select option six (6), Delete All entries from
Current Bad Track Table. Enter 'q' to quit and then
press <Enter> to accept the default value for the bad
track space allocation. When prompted: "Do you wish
to update this device with the new table? (y/n)",
enter 'y' to update device with new table. When
prompted: "Do you want to attempt to salvage
...(y/n)", enter 'n'.
3. Proceed with the installation using standard BTLD procedures.
To install this SLS after installation, do the following:
Note: If you have SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.0, you should install
Release Supplement 5.0.0d before installing this SLS.
1. Insert the SLS OSS451B floppy diskette in the primary floppy drive.
2. Type "mount /dev/fd0135ds18 /mnt" for a 3.5 inch 1.44MB drive.
3. Type "btldinstall /mnt".
4. A message will appear stating that the kernel must be
relinked for the changes to be effective. To do so, type:
cd /etc/conf/cf.d
./link_unix -y
5. Reboot the system.
If you have questions regarding this SLS, or the product on which it is
installed, please contact your software supplier.
We appreciate your business.
