OpenServer 6, The Most Reliable Operating System Just Got More Powerful

SCO OpenServer 6 establishes a new standard for rock-solid stability and dependability. It is a powerful, new, operating system with major performance improvements and greater application support. This session is a detailed review of OpenServer 6 features including increased memory and file size support, security enhancements, backward compatibility, support for Apache, Java® and Mozilla. This session will also cover performance improvements, licensing and pricing.

SCO Database Primer: Which Database Is Right For Your Environment?

Choosing the right database for your environment involves matching your requirements with the features and business and licensing terms offered by the various commercial data base vendors. In this session, SCO will present guidelines on choosing the right database for your environment, and the DB vendors will have the opportunity to discuss the advanced feature set and services of their products and services, including licensing terms and availability on SCO platforms.

Overview of OpenServer 6 Hardware

This session is a must for any customer of SCO to get a full overview into OpenServer 6 device driver configuration, management, and architecture. Other hardware sessions will delve deeper into some topics, but this session details thoroughly: OSR5 vs. OSR6, DCU, resmgr, mkdev interface, slice management, device nodes, certification program, SCT, CHWP, whitebox support, networking, wireless, X11, mpio, new vendor support, and other topics.

UnixWare and SCO OpenServer the Roadmap Ahead:  Birds of a Feather

This session covers SCO's Operating System roadmap plans.  The focus is new features planned for the UnixWare 7.1.4 and OpenServer 6 and the next major release code named Fusion.  A short formal presentation will be followed by an interactive birds-of-a-feather, (BOF), discussion. The resulting customer input will to help set the direction of future releases.  If needed this session will extend beyond its scheduled end time.

Future Platform Technologies

What new hardware technologies are OEMs like HP, Intel, Dell and others bringing your way this year? This session focused on new device, and technology support including: PCI Express, SAS/SATA, SAN, ACPI, Dual-Core, TOE, IOAT, Virtualization, and more and how SCO intends to leverage some of these technologies in future products.

What's New in Open Source for SCO Platforms

This session will detail newly introduced and upgraded Open Source components available for SCO OpenServer and UnixWare. The session will include a review of existing Open Source components, underscoring SCO's value-add in testing, integrating, maintaining and supporting the supplied components. We will list and describe what new Open Source components for SCO platforms we are providing and expect to provide in the near future.

The session will conclude with the introduction of SCO Skunkware 6, the 100 or so new Open Source technologies being released in custom installable format for OpenServer 6. A brief overview of SCO Professional Services' porting services for Open Source will also be provided.

Attendee feedback on issues raised in this session is highly desired as future work in this area is driven by customer, reseller and channel needs and requirements.

Developing for SCO Platforms, including Single Certification between UnixWare and OpenServer

This session will describe the Development Systems on SCO platforms, with emphasis on SCO OpenServer 6. Attention will be given to C and C++ compilers, debuggers, performance capabilities, and memory error checking tools. This session will also describe how ISVs and developers can create a single application binary that runs on both UnixWare 7 and OpenServer 6, thereby expanding their potential market while reducing their internal development costs.

HP Proliant Servers: Remote Management And New Features

The HP breakout session will focus on ProLiant servers and the ProLiant advantage with an emphasis on SCO UNIX support, certification, and remote management capabilities.

What makes a ProLiant a ProLiant – chassis design, performance, testing, remote management, standards, and system firmware.  We will focus on several new ProLiant models that drive HP’s market share lead in the SCO UNIX market: the ProLiant ML150 G2, the ML350 G4p (performance model), and the DL380 G4 SAS.

Remote management capabilities set ProLiant apart from our competitors.  We will answer the SCO UNIX IT manager’s challenges:

Installing & Configuring Samba 3 on OpenServer Release 6 and UnixWare 7.14

We’ll review the steps required to install and configure the current builds of Samba for OSR6 and UnixWare, as well as reviewing security options, use of SWAT, configuring shares, and accessing Windows resources from Unix. The presentation will provide a step by step guide and will highlight differences between the two implementations. A basic knowledge of Windows Networking is assumed.

SCO Java and Web Services Roadmap

This session will give an update on the status of Java technologies
for SCO OpenServer and UnixWare. This includes greatly improved
performance of the core Java Virtual Machine on SCO OpenServer;
Java application server support; and Java serial/parallel I/O support.
The session will then discuss how to create and deploy SOAP-based
web services on SCO OpenServer and UnixWare, for both Java and other languages such as C, C++, Perl, and PHP. Finally, the state of the
SCOx Web Services Substrate technologies and services will be discussed.

This session will provide an introduction to the replication tools available for SCO UnixWare - UnixWare Replication Kit (URK) and SCO OpenServer 6 - Mass Installation Toolkit (MIT). These replication tools provide a method of quickly duplicating the complex environment of Operating System, hardware, applications, device drivers, and data to any number of suitably configured target machines, requiring minimal user intervention. The session will cover hardware and software requirements and close with a demonstration of the replication tool on SCO OpenServer 6.

Introduction to Lowering Database Costs Through Developing, Using, and Managing Databases with MySQL

With this session you will first become familiar with MySQL on SCO. As part of the introduction we'll introduce you to MySQL and the recently introduced MySQL Network.

From a technical perspective we'll cover the basics, including day-to-day maintenance. More advanced topics will be covered such as simple performance tuning and using MySQL in distributed SCO environments. Further, in this session you will learn how costs can be controlled by reducing downtime, simplifying administration, and streamlining the system.

Meeting Today's Security Needs with IPSEC, VPN and IPFilter

This session is an in depth tutorial on how to use the tools and protocols available to configure systems for secure communication, NAT and firewalls. The IPsec (secure IP) protocol suite and associated tools provides the ability to encrypt and authenticate IP packets transmitted between cooperating hosts or subnets. Virtual Private Networks result from configuring secure communications between machines using IPsec and associated tools. Ipfilter provides for firewall configuration and/or enables Network Address Translation, NAT. NAT also known as IP-masquerading allows multiple machines to share a single public network address.

SCOoffice Birds of a Feather

This year SCO is introducing a program to help resellers create a quick-install SCOoffice Server appliance based on OpenServer 5.0.7, SCOoffice Server 4.1, and MicroLite BackupEDGE. At this session we will demonstrate the appliance installation and describe how to create a master. In addition we'll discuss features under consideration for future versions of SCOoffice Server and we'll present the current development roadmap. There will also be plenty of time for Q &A and to collect your feedback on the product.
